About the Journal

The Kottakkal Journal of Ayurvedic Medicine and Research is a peer-reviewed, quarterly online journal by Bhishak, the Publication division of the Kerala Ayurvedic Studies and Research Society (KASRS). Launched in 2025 and hosted by Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier Ayurveda College, Kottakkal, the journal aims to advance Ayurvedic science by integrating traditional Ayurvedic principles with modern scientific research.

This journal aims to carry forward the legacy of our founder, Vaidyaratnam PS Varier, who had insightful and far-sighted views regarding Ayurvedic therapeutics, pharmacy, and education. He pioneered Ayurvedic magazine publication, being the chief editor of Dhanvantari, the first medical journal in Ayurveda to be published in Kerala. Dhanvantari was published as a monthly journal and included articles on various topics of contemporary importance. Dhanvantari was able to generate opinions and discussions on a multitude of subjects even in that era of nascent communication facilities.

About BHISHAK Publication

The Bhishak publication division, established in 1983, has thrived under the guidance and leadership of distinguished faculty from VPSV Ayurveda College, Kottakkal. Dr. C.R. Under his stewardship, the division published Taiverukal, a compilation of articles by Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier.

Subsequently, the division continued its journey under the chief editorship of Dr. C.V. Jayadevan and Dr. P.P. Kirathamoorthy, playing a pivotal role in promoting and deepening the understanding of Ayurvedic principles.
