Elucidating The Therapeutic Potential Of Natural Herb Rubia Cordifolia (Manjishta) Through In Silico Approach Against The Drug Targets Of Psoriasis

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease with multiple phenotypically distinct subtypes.  Therapeutic options for psoriasis include topical therapy, phototherapy or systemic treatment.  Treatment targets include at least 75% or 90% improvement in PASI.  Despite its growing prevalence, current pharmacological options remain limited. Manjishta (Rubia cordifolia L), described in classical Ayurvedic literature under Varnya, Vishaghna and Jwarahara mahakashaya, possesses documented hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative and antioxidant properties. This study aimed to evaluate the potential molecular mechanisms of Manjishta phytoconstituents against psoriasis associated targets using in-silico approaches. Methods: Phytoconstituents of Rubia cordifolia L were retrieved from the IMPPAT and PubChem databases. ADME properties and drug-likeness were assessed using SwissADME, and bioavailability was visualized using the Boiled Egg model. Protein–protein interaction (PPI) networks were constructed via STRING. Molecular docking was performed using AutoDock Vina against key psoriasis related proteins. Docking interactions were analyzed in Discovery Studio Visualizer. Results: Phytoconstituents such as lucidin ethyl ether, xanthopurpurin, 1-hydroxy-2-methoxyanthraquinone, rubiadin, 1-hydroxy-2-methylanthraquinone and 2-(methoxymethyl)-1,3-dihydroxyanthraquinone demonstrated strong binding affinities (−7.0 to −8.4 kcal mol-1) toward estrogen receptor beta, neutrophil elastase, induced myeloid leukemia cell differentiation protein Mcl-1 and M-phase inducer phosphatase . ADME analysis indicated favorable oral bioavailability and compliance with Lipinski’s rule of five. The PPI network highlighted ESR1, BCL2, CASP3, DNMT1, TERT, PTPRC, DNMT3A, ESR2, MCL1 and ELANE as central nodes associated with psoriasis pathology, suggesting multi-target modulatory potential. Conclusion: This in-silico analysis predicts potential interactions of Rubia cordifolia phytoconstituents with key apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative and antioxidant pathways implicated in psoriasis. These findings warrant further experimental research to validate their biological relevance.

Dhatu Poṣaṇa Nyaya: Integrating Ayurvedic Principles of Tissue Nourishment with Modern Physiological Concepts

Nyaya is defined as an expression of a general truth or principle, and in Ayurveda it serves as an important methodological tool similar to Tantrayukti, Tacchilyam, and Kalpana to elucidate complex concepts through practical analogies and examples. Dhatu Poṣaṇa Nyayas are such explanatory principles employed in Ayurvedic classics and commentaries to clarify the process of formation and nourishment of the Dhatus. Proper nourishment of Dhatus is essential for the maintenance of health and prevention of disease. Classical Ayurvedic texts describe various Dhatuposhana Nyayas such as Ksheera Dadhi Nyaya,Kedari Kulya Nyaya , Khale Kapota Nyaya, and Eka kala dhatu poshana Nyaya to elucidate the process of Dhatu formation and distribution of nutrients in the body, to clarify the mechanisms of tissue development and nutrient allocation within the body. Correlating Dhatu Poṣaṇa Nyaya with contemporary physiological and biochemical knowledge provides a meaningful bridge between classical Ayurvedic wisdom and modern scientific understanding. Such integrative interpretation strengthens the scientific relevance of Ayurveda, facilitates interdisciplinary symposium, and offers a conceptual foundation for translational research, systems biology, and personalised healthcare approaches. This article explores these conceptual frameworks, analysing their theoretical foundations and highlighting their relevance in understanding physiological processes in both classical and contemporary contexts.

Ghee: A Delicious Path To Healthy Cholesterol, Separating Fact From Fiction- A Coneptual Review

Objective: Ghee (clarified butter) holds a vital place in Indian cuisine and Ayurveda, with India being the largest producer and consumer. Containing about 99.5% fat, ghee is rich in MUFA, PUFA, omega fatty acids, cholesterol, and vitamins A, D, E, and K, with its composition varying by milk source. Cow ghee is considered superior due to its favorable qualities and therapeutic value, described in Ayurveda as Sarvaprāninām sāmānyataḥ pathyatamaḥ—wholesome for all. Although often misunderstood as increasing cholesterol or obesity risk, studies reveal that moderate consumption of pure ghee supports lipid balance and overall metabolic health. Data Source: This review integrates classical Ayurvedic literature and modern scientific data on ghee’s composition and physiological effects. References from Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridaya emphasize the therapeutic significance of Go-ghrta. Review methods: Contemporary studies and nutrition databases were analyzed to evaluate ghee’s fatty acid profile, cholesterol content, and influence on lipid metabolism and cardiovascular health. Research focusing on moderate ghee intake (up to 10% of daily calories) was compared to align Ayurvedic insights with modern evidence. Conclusion: Findings show that ghee, despite containing cholesterol, aids in maintaining lipid balance and metabolic function. Misconceptions linking ghee with obesity or heart disease are largely unsubstantiated. Modern research confirms that moderate consumption of pure ghee does not adversely affect lipid profiles in healthy individuals. When taken in moderation alongside regular physical activity, ghee enhances metabolic health and remains a nutritious, culturally significant part of a balanced diet.

Bridging Tradition and Sustainability: Harnessing Vrikshayurveda Principles in Organic Medicinal Plant Cultivation

Introduction: India holds one of the richest repositories of medicinal plant diversity in the world, with around 7,500 species (44% of its flora) used for therapeutic purposes. The escalating demand has led to unsustainable wild collection practices and poses a serious threat to long-term availability. The cultivation of these plants remains limited due to challenges such as inadequate research, weak infrastructure and policy gaps. There is a pressing need for a sustainable, ecologically responsible model of medicinal plant cultivation. Methods: This paper explores the ancient principles of Vrikshayurveda, an Indian system of plant science, and evaluates its compatibility with modern organic agricultural practices. A qualitative analysis is conducted through literature review and discussions with experts and farmers. Results: The comparative analysis reveals a significant biochemical congruence between Vrikshayurveda formulations (e.g., Kunapajala) and modern organic inputs (e.g., Fish Amino Acid), validated by shared mechanisms of protein hydrolysis and microbial bio-priming. Stakeholder interactions identified economic viability and the 'soil transition period' as key barriers to implementation Conclusion: The integration of Vrikshayurveda and organic methods presents a viable pathway to sustainable medicinal plant cultivation in India. This paper addresses existing challenges, proposes solutions to support scalability, and provides insights into field-level realities and practical aspects of the current organic farming landscape, helping bridge the gap between theory and on-ground implementation. Ayurvedic Management of Rotator Cuff Injury (Avabahuka / Snayu Marma Abhighata): A Detailed Case Report

Background: Rotator cuff injuries are a leading cause of chronic shoulder pain and functional disability. In Ayurveda, these presentations are categorized under Avabahuka and Snayu Marma Abhighata. Methods: A 58-year-old male with an MRI-confirmed full-thickness rotator cuff tear and poorly controlled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus was treated with a multimodal Ayurvedic protocol. Treatment included internal medications (Rasnerandadi Kashayam), external therapies (Jadamayadi Lepam), and Panchakarma (Nasya, Njavara Theppu), integrated with structured physiotherapy. Results: Following the inpatient protocol, the patient achieved an increase in flexion from 40° to 180° and abduction from 25° to 120°. Pain was completely resolved, and the patient regained the ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL) without surgical intervention. Conclusion: Ayurvedic management serves as an effective non-surgical alternative for chronic musculoskeletal injuries, even in patients with complex systemic comorbidities.

The jungle and aroma of meats: An Ecological Theme in Hindu Medicine

This article reviews Francis Zimmermann’s seminal work, The Jungle and the Aroma of Meats: An Ecological Theme in Hindu Medicine. Originally published in French in 1982, the book remains a landmark study in the intersection of anthropology, ecology, and classical Indian medicine. Zimmermann, a student of the late Ashtavaidyan Vayaskara N.S. Mooss, examines how Ayurveda functions as a sophisticated socio-ecological theory rather than a mere collection of herbal therapies.   The core of the work explores the semantic evolution of the word "Jungle," tracing its origins from the Sanskrit Jangala—referring to arid, dry lands—to its modern misinterpreted meaning of dense tropical forests. Through an analysis of the "aroma of meats" and the "savors of the soil," Zimmermann illustrates the anthropocentric nature of ancient Indian medical tradition, where the environment, diet, and human health are harmonized through a system of bio-climatic classification. This review highlights the book’s enduring value to medical historians, anthropologists, and scholars of South Asian culture.
